COVID-19 VACCCINE INGREDIENTS  AND CAMPUS RESPONSE by Tamara Orozco

Their is still much hesitation of population getting the covid-19 vaccine’s ( Moderna, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson) particular the issue of the various ingredients of each vaccine and the safety of  getting the covid-19 vaccine. For instance, the Moderna vaccine is a two shot dose vaccine that means that an individual would have to get the first and second dose of the vaccine on separate occasions roughly twenty eight days apart from the first dose of the vaccine to the second dose.The Moderna vaccine contains lipids, polyethylene glycol, dimyristoyl glycerol, cholesterol and tromethamine, tromethamine hydrochloride, acetic acid, sodium acetate trihydrate and sucrose.

 The Moderna vaccine does not contain eggs, preservations and latex. if you do have an allergic reaction to any of the ingredients in the Moderna vaccine then you should not get this vaccine but instead get one of the alternative vaccines such as Johnson &Johnson or Pfizer. The Pfizer Vaccine is a two dose vaccine and it’s ingredients include mRNA lipids, potassium chloride, monobasic potassium, phosphate,sodium  chloride, disbasic sodium phosphate dihydrate, and sucrose, N-ditetradecy lacetamide, bis hexane. The vaccine does not contain eggs,latex and preservations and if  an individual is allergic to any of the ingredients then an individual should try taking an alternative vaccine.

Furthermore, The Johnson & Johnson vaccine is a single dose vaccine and its ingredients include recombinant, replication-incompetent adenovirus type 26 expressing the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, citric acid monohydrate, trisodium citrate dihydrate, ethanol, 2-hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HBCD), polysorbate-80, sodium chloride. The vaccine does not contain eggs, preservations and latex. Furthermore, in recent news their seemed to be an issue with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine where woman between the ages 0f 18 and 48 years of age these woman who received the vaccine developed blood clots or allergic reactions to vaccine after their single dose this resulted in the Johnson and Johnson vaccine to be distributed as a vaccine for the public until a solution was found.the cause of these blood cots seems to be associated with low platelet count reacting to heparin .Furthermore, a solution has been found for the Johnson and Johnson vaccine association to blood clots and the vaccine is once more available to the public again. 

Recently, it was announced that California State university would require it’s students  and faculty  to be immunized against the covid 19 virus. Along with the University of California required that all students and faculty to be vaccinated in order to be on campus in person on any university or college campus this up in coming fall. This requirement would apply to twenty-three CSU campuses and ten UC Campuses the purpose of these requirements of immunization would be in order to ensure the safety of everyone. Those exempted from receiving the mandatory vaccine would have to be individuals who health conditions such as allergies that would prevent them getting the vaccine or religious reasons. Furthermore, youths are now more frequently  testing positive  for covid-19 with a heartbreaking amount of  three hundred to seven hundred people die each day due to covid-19.this is sadly a testament of the lack of concern or trivializing the covid-19 virus and completely disregarding social distancing rules as a whole that has lead to these many deaths that could easily be prevented as a whole if people took the time to get vaccinated and took safety precautions.
