Phineas Class and Production Delayed by Tamara Orozco

San Bernardino Valley College literary magazine Phineas contains literary work submissions from students and the magazine not only contains literary works such as poetry or short stories the magazine also contains art pieces such as drawings and photography that is usually submitted during the period between October and  February.

Unfortunately, this year  Phineas Literary magazine  will not be published due to remote learning .Professor Joel Lamore ,the magazine advisor, said  that the publication was cancelled also because  the Phineas class would not be meeting in person and so critical decisions made about the submissions could not be made well online. The Phineas magazine relies on promotion of the magazine for student submissions to be put in the magazine for the following year. A high majority of students who are interested in submitting for the following edition of the Phineas magazine have picked up the previous years issue thus resulting in their interest to submit to the following year edition.

The promotion of the Phineas magazine requires  numerous channels of information a majority of them where either missing or  compromised .Furthermore, the  issue that has resulted in the Phineas magazine not being published for this year would be the lack of student enrollment in the Phineas production course that includes student’s  taking on the role of editors during the magazine production period and due to the pandemic even fewer students have enrolled into the course which has led to a contributing factor of the magazine not being made for 2021. Also, the lack of inquiry concerning submission for the Phineas also contributed to the result of the magazine not being published.

This also included one of a few possibly issues that contributed to the lack of a magazine for this year was the lack of a physical copy last year’s issue of the Phineas which was published digitally which resulted in students lacking the ability to pick up a physical copy of the magazine and get interested in possibly submitting to following year edition of the magazine. Some possible solutions to the issue at hand would be pushing back the publication of the Phineas magazine to next spring school year of 2022 to adequately prepare for the publication of the magazine and inquiry of submission pieces from students.
