Virtual Wolverine Con Wows by Thomas Shincke

 Earlier in the month, San Bernardino Valley College wrapped up its annual student film festival, hosted by the head of our film program Professor Lucas Cuny,WolverineCon, having taken place from March 31st to April 3rd . Although held virtually, there was still a lot to partake in. In case you didn't catch anything here's what you missed 

Starting off the festival was a 2 hour expo covering careers in television, radio and film, including KVCR, the station our school is partnered with. Next was 4 discussion panels covering different topics regarding film and other aspects of the entertainment industry. These topics include horror films, voice over work in animation and video games,a discussion and black masculinity and nerd culture. And even star trek. 

On day two there was a virtual cosplay competition and the premiere of the documentary film “The Dino” directed by SBVC film program Alumni Daniel Saldana. Day two ended with a discussion about the film with the director and Professor Cuny.

Days three and four saw the student film festival take place as well as the award ceremony ,here are the winners for each category.

Best Actress: Rose Bengtsson for “Amend”

Best Editing: Joel Mendez Zarate for “Hundred Flowers Project”

Best Cinematography: Paul Emmanuel Lastennet for “Midnight”

Best Music Score: Gabriel Alexander for “BCTV: Endgame”

Best Screenplay: John Patrick for “Amend”

Best Directing: Joshua Bowen for “Anopsia”

Best Animation: Leanna Lin for “Phonism”

Best High School Film: “The Choice” by Amitai Kasher

Best Documentary: “Magdalena” by Maggie Ding 

Best Narrative: “Black Water” by Jenn Xu

Fan Film for Best Concept: “Conversations that Come Along with Chess” be Dominick Garcez

Fan Film for Best Performance: “FPD: Fashion Police Department” by Briana Navarro
